Arts
Clayton is committed to arts education and developing
the talents of our students. This scholarship appropriately
connects the Fine Art program of our public schools
with career and educational opportunities through
Clayton College & State University. We are deeply
indebted to Dr. and Mrs. Manolo Apanay for their
leadership in raising funds for this scholarship.
Initiated
in 2001 to recognize the leadership and cultural
contributions of Dr. Manolo Apanay, his services
on the Board of Arts Clayton and the Trustees of
the Clayton College & State University Foundation,
and his inspiration in developing the Cultural Crossroads
International Festival, this annual scholarship
is for a graduating student to study any are of
art at Clayton College & State University.
Dr.
Apanay, has brought together many great partners
including the Clayton-Fayette-Henry Medical Society
to make this scholarship possible. Apanay, who is
originally from Rizal Nueva Ecija Phillipines, moved
to the metro area in 1964 to complete his residency
in surgery at Crawford Long Hospital. Recognized
in Washington, D.C. as one of the Twenty Outstanding
Filipino Americans in the United States, Chairman
of Ambulatory Care Committee (1971 - present) and
a former Chief of Surgery and Chief of Medical Staff
at Southern Regional Medical Center. He is a co-founder
and past president of Asian Pacific American Council
of Georgia, Board of Advisors - Philippine American
Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, and the National
Federation of the Philippine American Chamber of
Commerce of USA. From 1971 - 2001, he served the
community with a private practice in Jonesboro,
Georgia.

Vinot
Excelling
in AP Music theory, demonstrating keen musical ability
and compositional skill, Christel Vinot demonstrates
a deep commitment to her music and composition through
daily work. She expands on her classroom work through
independent composition and work that enhances her
classroom experience.
"I've dedicated the last seven years
of my life to music. I have always enjoyed playing
the cello and put my heart into it. In the last
two years, all my free time has been spent writing
music. I want to pursue music composition as
a career."

Recipient of the Apanay Art Scholarship - Heather
N. Coleman
Since
the eighth grade, Heather Coleman had wanted to
be a professional violist or a string teacher. Spending
many hours during and after school, she devotes
herself to studying and advancing her skills, but
mostly because she enjoys it. Ms. Coleman composed
a viola duet by the name of La Vendetta Finale,
a variation of Bach First Cello Suite, and a short
etude for the piano.
"If I receive this scholarship, I
will use it to further my knowledge and my abilities.
While studying at CCSU, I hope to enjoy earning
my degree and bettering my skills to be the
finest violist possible in the future."

2002
Recipient of the Apanay Art Scholarship - Ivan Segovia
During
his high school years, Ivan Segovia participated
in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra Chorus,
the All-State Chorus and the Spivey Hall Honor Choir.
He not only has a love for music and theatre, he
has put a great deal of work into the Fine Arts,
both in and out of school.
"I plan to attend CCSU this fall with
a major in Vocal Performance and a minor in
Theatre Performance."

Students
are nominated by the Fine Arts teachers at their
schools. Final selection is made the Clayton County
Public School System's Fine Art Department Chairs.
