Apanay Art Scholarship Fund

Cultural CrossroadsArts Clayton is committed to arts education and developing the talents of our students. This scholarship appropriately connects the Fine Art program of our public schools with career and educational opportunities through Clayton College & State University. We are deeply indebted to Dr. and Mrs. Manolo Apanay for their leadership in raising funds for this scholarship.

Initiated in 2001 to recognize the leadership and cultural contributions of Dr. Manolo Apanay, his services on the Board of Arts Clayton and the Trustees of the Clayton College & State University Foundation, and his inspiration in developing the Cultural Crossroads International Festival, this annual scholarship is for a graduating student to study any are of art at Clayton College & State University.

Dr. Apanay, has brought together many great partners including the Clayton-Fayette-Henry Medical Society to make this scholarship possible. Apanay, who is originally from Rizal Nueva Ecija Phillipines, moved to the metro area in 1964 to complete his residency in surgery at Crawford Long Hospital. Recognized in Washington, D.C. as one of the Twenty Outstanding Filipino Americans in the United States, Chairman of Ambulatory Care Committee (1971 - present) and a former Chief of Surgery and Chief of Medical Staff at Southern Regional Medical Center. He is a co-founder and past president of Asian Pacific American Council of Georgia, Board of Advisors - Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, and the National Federation of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of USA. From 1971 - 2001, he served the community with a private practice in Jonesboro, Georgia.

2003 Recipient of the Apanay Art Scholarship - Heather N. Coleman

Since the eighth grade, Heather Coleman had wanted to be a professional violist or a string teacher. Spending many hours during and after school, she devotes herself to studying and advancing her skills, but mostly because she enjoys it. Ms. Coleman composed a viola duet by the name of La Vendetta Finale, a variation of Bach First Cello Suite, and a short etude for the piano.

"If I receive this scholarship, I will use it to further my knowledge and my abilities. While studying at CCSU, I hope to enjoy earning my degree and bettering my skills to be the finest violist possible in the future."
