It’s official! The Smithsonian Institution comes to Historic Main Street Jonesboro. Join the ribbon cutting and grand opening and a preview of this unique interactive exhibit - the Smithson Institution’s “HOMETOWN TEAMS: HOW SPORTS SHAPE AMERICA.” Featuring Jonesboro’s hometown swimming champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Lundquist.
Exhibit opens - free to public

Be among the first to experience this unique touring exhibit. Arts Clayton is the only metro location and is the 3rd stop on the “HOMETOWN TEAMS” tour in Georgia. Open free to the public during regular Special Gallery hours: 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. Closed Sunday and Holidays. Artvan's Summer Reading Tour with Libraries
Beginning Wednesday, July 6
A partnership of “Hometown Teams,” ArtVan mobile reading & literacy initiative, and the Clayton County Libraries’ Summer Reading Program. Children will make an Olympic torch and Olympic ring set while discussing how to accomplish their dreams with a hero’s heart. Based on the book “Olympig: The Triumphant Story of an Underdog” by Victoria Jamieson. Dates & Times vary:

Spend an evening in the new Lee Street Park recognizing local sports heroes including Clayton County’s D.J. Shockley – a UGA and Falcons standout. The Tailgate Party will celebrate the success of winning teams and athletes of all ages, cheerleaders, bands, booster clubs, families and friends. Featuring concessions, field games & fun!
